The city Amsterdam:

Amsterdam is the largest city of The Netherlands and is also its capital. Amsterdam is situated in the province of North Holland and is part of the northern part of the so called “Randstad”( A large area comprising the big cities like: Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht, Gouda, Haarlem).

Amsterdam has a population of 820,256 within its city borders, an urban population of 1,209,419 and a suburban population of 2,289,762 (2010)

The division of houses is as follows (2010):

  • Houses owned by corporations 48,4%
  • Privately owned rental houses 21,2%
  • Privately owned houses 30,5%

The policy of the council of Amsterdam, the corporation’s and other parties leads to changes in the stock of the Amsterdam houses. A lot of houses have been built, rental houses have been sold and are now privately owned and an extensive urban renewal has been executed where the quality of the houses has been given a big boost by demolition and replacement.

These changes were made because the population of Amsterdam has a larger need for a better housing quality and because the large number of people in Amsterdam wishing to continue climbing up the property ladder in Amsterdam has been growing. The division of income is changing more towards the higher incomes while the lower incomes are decreasing.

Amsterdam is the commercial capital of The Netherlands and one of the most important financial centers in Europe. A large number of Dutch companies are having their headquarters here, and 7 of the global top 500 companies, amongst them, Philips and ING, are residing in the city. In 2010, Amsterdam was globally ranked in thirteenth place for quality of life by Mercer. The Amsterdam stock exchange, the oldest exchange in the world, is situated in the center of the city.

Located in the Centre of the Amsterdam “Zuidas”, is the World Trade Center Amsterdam. WTC Amsterdam is a dynamic commercial 'world city ', populated by at least three hundred companies, which often are internationally oriented. With representatives of more than 30 nationalities, it is no exception to hear Dutch, English, Russian, French and Japanese in public areas. More than half of the established companies are of foreign descent.

The primary purpose of World Trade Center Amsterdam is housing and bringing together companies and providing them with a range of services that supports the business and helps them to be successful. This proven, successful formula shares WTC Amsterdam with more than three hundred World Trade Centers worldwide, in 100 countries.

The most famous tourist sights in Amsterdam attract more than 3,660,000 international visitors every year.
